MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Yuri Yaroshevich met with Chairman of the World Holocaust Remembrance Center Yad Vashem Dani Dayan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
During the meeting, the parties highlighted common destinies of the Belarusian and Jewish peoples during World War II. Special attention was given to the fact that approximately 700 Belarusians were awarded the title “Righteous Among the Nations”. This honorary title is awarded to those who risked their lives and the safety of their loved ones to save Jews from the Nazis during the Holocaust.
The ambassador emphasized Belarus' commitment to preserving the heroic legacy of both nations. This is evidenced by the participation of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a national clean-up day at a historical and tourist site in the Nalibokskaya Pushcha national landscape reserve. The site is dedicated to the Belarusian partisan movement, particularly the activities of the detachment of the Bielski brothers and the Zorin partisan unit.
Dani Dayan expressed willingness to continue and expand cooperation with the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History and Belarusian archives.
